DeLeón Tequila and Broken Spanish Chef Ray Garcia present a Night of Modern Mexican Cuisine to kick-off LA Weekly Tacolandia

This dinner will feature the best chefs in Northern Mexico and Alta, California for a multi-course meal of northern Mexican gastronomy interpreted through the lens of Modern Mexican cuisine. This evening joins three Mexican chefs on the Pellegrino Latin 50 Best list with two of the leading chefs in a nouveau Mexican-American cuisine that's taking Los Angeles by storm. Among the list of esteemed chefs are two of the creators and leading voices of Modern Mexican cuisine, chefs Gonzalez and Molina, a new breed of Mexican-trained chefs, Diego Hernandez, America's first fine dining taquero in Wes Avila, and hosting chef, Ray Garcia, who's helping create an original style of Mexican cooking, born in L.A.

Grand Central Market Hosts Inaugural Los Angeles Bread Festival

Make way as Grand Central Market hosts the first-ever Los Angeles Bread Festival on June 6-7, a free, two-day celebration of the Southern Californian artisan bread renaissance.

Curated by Grand Central Market creative director Joseph Shuldiner, who is also founder and director of the Institute of Domestic Technology, the Los Angeles Bread Festival will be an opportunity to experience the many flavors of L.A. bread through an assortment of pop-ups, workshops (including a community bread bake), demonstrations, and moderated panel discussions.

Hands-on family friendly activities will include "Feel the Churn Butter Aerobics," a participatory butter-making/aerobic class, tortilla-making, sourdough starter 101 and more. 

The Festival will also include a 12-minute sneak peek of the highly anticipated documentary "The Grain Divide," a film by JD McLelland that aims to change society's perceptions of wheat and mend the broken relationship between humans and grains. The panel discussion "Field to Table" will explore the L.A. bread movement from the perspective of local farmers, millers, bakers and chefs.

Throughout the two-day festival, Grand Central Market vendors will provide an eclectic offering of bread items--traditional, hearth-baked loaves from Clark Street Bread, cornbread from Horse Thief BBQ, flatbread from Madcapra, zucchini bread from Valerie's Confections, handmade tortillas from Chiles Secos, cheeses and butter from DTLA Cheese and much more. To kick of the first day of summer, Silver Lake’s Knuckle & Claw will be hosting their 1st Annual Clam Bake. With grilled and boiled whole lobsters, steamers, and a raw bar serving freshly shucked oysters, Knuckle & Claw will bring a real Martha’s Vineyard celebration to the Eastside. Beer will flow, and of course there will be a live band, horseshoes, Adirondack chairs, and fire pits - extra points to those who show up in their Vineyard Vines. The event will be held in the parking lot adjacent to the restaurant, with food being served outdoors, and beer being served inside.
Presale: $50 will get you a whole lobster, steamers, and oysters from the raw bar, and all the fixings, plus two beers. For all you can drink beer, tickets will cost $65.
Tickets will go up $10 at the door. $5 of each ticket sold will go to Faircloth & Supply – a charity dedicated to increasing the economic empowerment of women worldwide.
