The Original Pasadena Doo Dah Parade

East Pasadena

Colorado Blvd. and Vinedo Ave., Los Angeles, CA

Known as the twisted sister of the traditional Rose Parade, Doo Dah began as a grassroots event in 1978 to gain national attention for its eccentric and, often, irreverent satire. The parade, which has spawned numerous off-beat replicants across the country, was named by Readers Digest as America’s Best Parade, and was recently featured in the book 50 Places You Must Visit Before You Die!

WHAT YOU’LL SEE: Colorful favorites slated to make their appearance are the Mile-High Bed, a parody of not-so-traditional airline behavior, Disco Drill Team (original American Bandstanders), USA Beard Champions, Flying Baby Cannon, Candy Girls, Dr. Steele’s Army of Toy Soldiers, beer-boosting rockers Drunk in the Garage, Kinetic Pastry Science Mobile Muffins, The Billionaires, Vegetables of Laguna Beach, Backyard Skeptics, Human Pool Balls, Petroleum Bonaparte, OC Norml’s Mardi Grass, Songbird Robot Brigade, and the legendary Snotty Scottie & the Hankies leading the pack.

Last year, dozens of inventive, if zany, art cars and floats accompanied a legion of frolickers past the mom-n-pop shops along East Pasadena’s shady tree-lined streets, old and new entries this year also include Easy Acres Chicken Sitters, combined bands of the 35th Dragoon Guards, Boo-Boo Kitty, KidSwap, Auto Focus-Famous Director, A Moveable Feast, Pool Balls, Howdy Krishna, Girls Drawing Girls Pin-Ups, Charlie and Pearl the Unicorns, Horses on Astroturf, Klingon Assault Group, and much, much more! Yes, another Doo Dah is here to help you forget your humdrum existence!

Want to take mass transit to the Doo Dah Parade?  Take the Metro Gold Line to Sierra Madre Villa Station. Head west toward Sierra Madre Villa Ave, turn left and walk down Sierra Madre Villa Ave .2 miles. Turn right onto Colorado and walk one mile to the start of the parade!
