Fiesta Hermosa

(ALSO MAY 28-29) Since 1972, HBCCVB has produced Fiesta Hermosa, the “Largest Arts & Crafts Fair in Southern California,” featuring approximately 300 artists including painters, photographers, ceramicists, jewelers, sculptors, and handicrafters. The festival takes place every Memorial Day and Labor Day Weekend (Saturday, Sunday and Monday) in downtown Hermosa Beach.

Fiesta Hermosa attendees can choose from a wide selection of cuisine in the food court, which also boasts a new clean uniform look to vendors and general seating area. The AB InBev-sponsored Charity Beer & Wine Garden offers beer, wine and beeritas with proceeds benefiting a number of local charities. There is live music on two main stages as well as a new satellite stage situated outside Java Man. A full schedule is available under music lovers.

Families have plenty of activities to keep the kids happy. The Kiddie Carnival features a 30 foot slide, mechanical rides and games for kids from 3 to 10 years old. There will be pony rides, a petting zoo, face painters and a new improved Adventure Plex sponsored KIDZone.

Mommies can find solace in their very own tranquil zone at the Fiesta Siesta. Fiesta Siesta is a staffed, secure Mommy zone, where diapers can be changed, babies can be nursed, water can be found, and mommies can freshen up and just relax. Alison, a very grateful mom had this to say about the Fiesta Siesta: “I was able to nurse & change my 3 month old. Just wanted to say Thank You! It was very comfortable and much appreciated!”

Valley Greek Festival

(ALSO MAY 28-29) The San Fernando Valley’s annual Greek Festival is taking place on Saturday through Monday, May 28-30, 2016 at Saint Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church. The festival evokes the sights, sounds and tastes that define the traditional Greek way of life. Enjoy the hospitality of the Valley’s Greek community, and experience the simple pleasures of life in a Greek village.

Dozens of volunteers enthusiastically staff their booths, creating a convivial, welcoming atmosphere. Festival-goers will not want to miss the delicious Greek food. — Delectable festival favorites like gyros and moussaka. And no Greek village would be complete without homemade pastries from Yia Yia’s traditional recipes: baklava, melomakarona, and kataifi are just a few of the sweet treats to delight you.

Listen to the distinctive sounds of the bouzouki and other exotic instruments played by authentic Greek musicians who perform traditional and popular songs. Delight in the beauty of the elaborate costumes worn by performers as they share their carefully practiced steps and intricate dances with the enthusiastic audience.
