Family Day at the University Art Museum

Come join us for a family day at the UAM, in conjunction with the exhibition, Jessica Rath: A Better Nectar. Photo art activities with plants will be available for children on the UAM plaza. The Consumed and MOCA 8 exhibitions will also be on view.

Family Day will include activities and information booths including:

- Children's photosensitive art projects using plants, led by UAM Docent Council
- Demonstrations from the City of Long Beach Sustainability Office
- Interactive Ti'at Restoration workshop, CSULB American Indian Studies
- Grow Beach University Garden, Associated Students, Inc.
- Earl Burns Miller Japanese Garden, CSULB

2-3pm: Lecture on native California plants, Lisa Novick, Theodore Payne Foundation. Native plants will be available for sale.
3-4pm: Gallery walkthrough with Jessica Rath and digital designer Elise Co of Aeolab.

The Alan Chan Jazz Orchestra (ACJO), comprised of 17 first-call studio/jazz musicians in Los Angeles, has become a rising star in the big band scene in recent years. ACJO released their debut album Shrimp Tale in July 2014 with concerts in LA and New York City. Chan’s originality has won rave reviews from New York City Jazz Records, DownBeat and AllAboutJazz.com, as well as radio plays on over 70 stations in the USA and abroad. Winner of the 2011 ArtEZ International Jazz Composition Contest in the Netherlands, his genre-shaking compositions can be heard in an array of venues serving classical (Taiwan National Concert Hall), experimental (the Stone NYC) and jazz (Catalina Jazz Club Los Angeles & Flagey Center in Brussels).
