11:00am

All summer long, the Skirball invites family members of all ages to chill out in our groovy ’70s-themed Family Lounge, a nod to the exhibition Bill Graham and the Rock & Roll Revolution.
The whole family will dig the vibe in this lounge, decorated from floor to ceiling in retro furnishings. Surrounded by macramé wall hangings, vintage family photos, and shag carpeting, sit in bean bag chairs and listen to classic tunes, read a collection of Mad magazines, play far-out games like Twister, Connect Four, and This Game Is Bonkers, color psychedelic illustrations by Alexander Williamson and Tracy Dove, take a snapshot of you and your family dressed as members of a garage band, and more!
Every Wednesday in July and August, the Family Lounge will feature fun ’70s-inspired activities to help you tune in and rock on! At varying times throughout the day, activities will include weaving God’s eyes, beading, jamming to music, painting pet rocks, and more. Activities subject to cancellation.

Alleluia (w/ Dir. Fabrice Du Welz in person)

Cinefamily

611 N. Fairfax, Los Angeles, CA

8:30pm

A breathtaking, oozing-in-id descent (ascent?) into the tantalizing, terrifying minds of Martha Beck and Ray Fernandez—the infamous “lonely hearts killers”—Alleluia immerses the viewer directly into the headspace of this murderous duo so completely that it transcends the horror to become the kind of filmgoing experience you experience once or twice every few years, if you’re lucky. The film plays like a twisted sister to Claire Denis’ masterpiece Trouble Every Day and certainly creeps in the same world as Du Welz’ fantastic first feature, Calvaire. And while Leonard Kastle’s The Honeymoon Killers is a true crime masterpiece, Alleluia is determined to focus on the deep, dark corners of the human psyche, its seductive cinematography pulling us into this wild, horrific and beautifully grotesque world until we realize, too late, there is no exit.
Dir. Fabrice Du Welz, 2014, DCP, 93 min.
