The festival explores topics affecting a wide array of animals and highlights ways our society both celebrates and jeopardizes our relationships with non humans. Animal Film Festival aims to entertain audiences and to propel them into action to change their own lives as well as the animals effected. Each film is followed by a Q&A with JP Novic, executive director of CAPE, and Shelley Frost, director of the festival.

8 - 10 PM

CHEEK BY JOWL (12 min)
In Charleston SC, and many other neighboring states, alligators are becoming a larger issue for many communities.

People keep killing wild animals but don't even consider that those creatures are the same animals and friends as their pets, same souls as their beloved people.

WE ARE RHINO (21 min)
Two rhinos are brutally butchered every day in South Africa -simply to supply Asian demand for illegal horn products. This demand is booming beyond control. For those who love the rhino, extinction is not an option. But what is the right option? Three VERY different people. Three VERY different ideas. One BIG question.

Combat Medic Blade Anthony is miles away from the battlefield but can't escape its daily effects. Honorably discharged and diagnosed with PTSD, Blade now finds himself lost in civilian life. After applying for a support dog, Blade begins to acknowledge the emotional scars of the war that was left behind and looks to a rescued companion for a second chance at life.

8 - 10 PM

In October 2002 the first political party worldwide is founded which does not base its policy on human-centric thinking. The Party for the Animals represents a new political movement that values animal welfare and the environment. 'The foundation of The Party for the Animals was received with much skepticism within traditional politics. However, the Party for the Animals quickly appeared to function as a pacer in the marathon', recalls Marianne Thieme - co-founder and party leader.

De Haas in de Marathon is a documentary on the first ten years of the Party for the Animals. Next to in-depth interviews with the party founders, the film provides an insight into the public reception of this pioneering political movement, within science, politics and media.

LAST DAY (14 min)
On the day a young man plans to kill himself, he has an unexpected encounter on his final walk through his New York City neighborhood. Suddenly, he is presented with an opportunity for change.

GROUNDED (7 min)
The story of a little baby elephant who sees all the other animals jumping around on the savanna and wants nothing more than to be able to jump too. When he realizes he cannot lift his feet off the ground, he resorts to more creative means despite his disposition. All goes well until the mother is tired of the baby's constant shenanigans.

Keyshia Cole - Point of No Return

The Wiltern

Los Angeles, CA 90010

(AUG. 22) Before R&B singer Keyshia Cole was headlining her own world tours, she was enlisted as a supporting act for such major stars as Nelly, R. Kelly, Kanye West and Lil Wayne. However, even as an opening act, Keyshia had audiences transfixed. She continued to release hit songs like “I Changed My Mind,” “(I Just Want It) To Be Over,” “Love,” “Let It Go,” “Trust” (a duet with Monica), and “Take Me Away,” and, as a result, Keyshia garnered a legion of her own fans worldwide, all eagerly lining up for tickets to watch her perform LIVE. Fans and critics regularly praise the stylish diva’s concerts not only for her vocal chops and dance skills, but for the way she’s able to emotionally connect with the audience on a deep level. This two-way exchange is enhanced by the fact that the star’s personal struggles were made public by her decision to star in her own BET reality TV show “Keyshia Cole: The Way It Is”—a brave move for any artist. Among her biggest influences, she cites the likes of Anita Baker, Faith Evans, Brandy and Mary J. Blige.
