Ernest Cole's striking photographs document the corrosive effects of South Africa’s apartheid system from 1958–66. Issues of race, repression, and representation intrinsic to these arresting images are the focus of a panel discussion including esteemed political activist and UC Santa Cruz professor emerita Angela Davis, artist Ken Gonzales-Day, and Harvard University anthropologist Jean Comaroff, moderated by UC Berkeley political theorist Wendy Brown.
Preceding the panel discussion, there is a opening reception for the 25th Anniversary of University of California Humanities Research Institute (UCHRI). The hosted reception from 6:30–7:30 pm will be on the Fowler Museum's Terrace overlooking Wilson Plaza. Join panel speakers, UCHRI fellows and others at this free event.
Co-sponsored by the UC Humanities Research Institute as part of the 25th anniversary of the UC Humanities Initiative.
