Bob Santelli's Los Angeles

Bob Santelli, Executive Director of the GRAMMY Museum and noted blues and rock historian, shares his favorite places to catch a concert, cheer on the home team and ride the waves.
Amoeba Music
It is, quite simply, the best record store in America. You can find the most obscure CDs here, as well as an incredibly large selection of vinyl. I can spend an entire Sunday afternoon thumbing through row after row of discs and never walk away without music to add to my collection.
GRAMMY Museum at L.A. LIVE

The Clive Davis Theater is my favorite part of the GRAMMY Museum. Not only is it an intimate, state-of-the-art music venue — the best in L.A .— but it’s here where we produce our “Evening With…” series. Imagine “Inside The Actor’s Studio” meets “MTV Unplugged” — that’s what “An Evening With…” is all about. Everyone from Lady Gaga to Ringo Starr has performed here.
I spend my fall afternoons here watching USC football. There’s nothing better than cheering for the Trojans as they defeat rivals Notre Dame and UCLA with 90,000 other boosters sporting the cardinal and gold.
Malibu - Surfrider Beach

Although I don’t always have the time to catch a few waves, when I do, I make it to Malibu, one of the great surfing spots in southern California. For longboarders like me, the waves break just right for long, fun rides.
I’m as big a baseball fan as I am a college football fan, so I shoot for a dozen Dodger games each spring and summer in order to quench my love of the game. Incredibly, Dodger Stadium, built in 1962, is the third oldest major league ballpark, behind Wrigley Field and Fenway Park.
L.A. LIVE

You can’t go wrong at L.A. LIVE. Professional sports? It has the Lakers, Clippers, Sparks, and Kings. Award shows? How about the GRAMMYS, the Emmys and so many more. Clubs? Concerts? Restaurants? It’s enough to fill out a weekend a couple of times a month.
Book Soup

I love books as much as I do music, and I’m hard pressed to find a better book store in L.A. than Book Soup. The clerks are knowledgeable and the book stock is first rate, plus Book Soup offers regular author’s readings and book signings. What more could a book lover ask for?
Troubadour

One of L.A.’s legendary music clubs, the Troubadour still presents some of the best music you’ll hear in the city. Like another classic L.A. rock club, The Whiskey-a-Go0Go, the Troubadour is one of the keepers of L.A.’s music soul.
McCabe's Guitar Shop

McCabe’s is a combination music store and music club. I love roaming through the racks of acoustic guitars and then catching a folk show later on. McCabe’s also offers the most intriguing music classes—everything from basic blues to advanced bottleneck guitar and plenty more.
