The Best Record Stores in Los Angeles

Right now is a great time for record buying in Los Angeles. For every Fair Trade, single-origin-bean coffee shop and kimchi churro truck, a new record shop seems to pop up next door every week. In the Los Feliz-Echo Park-Silver Lake-Highland Park area there are 20 record shops right now - and that’s 19 more than there were three years ago. If you want, you can buy records at Urban Outfitters - "if you want." There’s even a barber salon in my neighborhood that sells vinyl.

Nowadays, I play music on many formats. Still, there’s nothing better than digging through crate after crate and finding that one piece of vinyl you’ve been searching for for ages. Read on and find out where I like to do that.

L.A. is a city of stories. Not just screenplays and novels. But real life stories that can only happen in L.A. A close encounter with dolphins. A brush with a celebrity. A cupcake from a vending machine. It could be an event, an exhibit, a song. But the moment it happens, you can’t wait to tell everyone back home about it. What's your L.A. story?
