Pho has been around for a century and is indisputably the national dish of Vietnam. A good pho takes hours to make; beef bones and parts are simmered under low heat to obtain a rich, complex flavor. Pho is typically divided into two camps. Southern pho is the more common one, with an abundant use of spices and flavorings (fish sauce, hoisin, etc.) and versatile cuts of meat like tripe and brisket. Northern pho is much more simplistic - the noodles are flatter and wider, and the focus is on its pure beef broth. The main ingredients are rice noodles and thinly sliced raw beef. The second annual Negroni Week is taking place across the country and around the world from June 2-8, 2014. During Negroni Week, participating bars - over 1,200 as this post goes live - are mixing up Negronis and donating at least $1 from each cocktail sold to a charity of their choice. Campari has announced that it will donate $10,000 to the qualified charity of the bar or restaurant that raises the most money during this year’s Negroni Week.

Besides the classic Negroni - made with gin, Campari, sweet vermouth - imbibers can look forward to variations like the Negroni No. 9 at Rivera, and special events like the Negroni Soirée, taking place at Harlowe on Tuesday, June 3.

Silver Lake is one of L.A.'s most featured neighborhoods, named after one of two reservoirs around which it was drawn. Sunset Junction, Silver Lake's urban center, is located at the intersection of Santa Monica and Sunset Boulevards, two main L.A. streets that otherwise run parallel all the way to the Pacific Ocean. Until the mid-1950s, the Junction served as the site of the branching of two inter-urban railway lines. The neighborhood was also home to Walt Disney's first large studio from 1925 to 1939, located at Hyperion Avenue and Griffith Park Boulevard.
